As far as I can tell, Nick Palmer seems to be saying at the end that the reason the Tories got in in Broxtowe was (partly) because people voted with their hearts rather than tactically and are regretting it now. As true as this may be, it surely only reinforces the argument that electoral reform is needed. I’m a first-time voter (last general election was 5 months before my 18th birthday!) and am already disillusioned with the system, having cast a ‘wasted’ vote. Still can’t believe Broxtowe’s turned blue again 😦
You’re absolutely right Rachel. There are now a number of campaigns to make sure that the prospect of electoral reform doesn’t get dumped by Nick Clegg as the price for sharing power with Cameron.
